Yep, today was the day to pick up our pigs! This is our gilt, Ruby.

She feel right at home, rutting around their new pen.

This is the barrow, Rudy. He seems quite at home, already taking a nap in the sunshine.
Ruby needs a drink after rutting around. They both seem to be very easy going. We've had some that were very high strung and skittish.
Mo checking out the trailer, he loves to GO, anywhere. His winter coat is almost all in and does he ever look like a teddy bear.
Sorry, dupe, it was so good I posted it twice*wink*
This is the mama hen who hatched and is raising a baby turkey. The funny thing is when we put her in with the turkey mamas I thought the baby may go with them, but no- way the poor little guy looked at them and said NOT THE MAMA! and went running to his chicken mama.
The bronze tom is our guest for supper on Thanksgiving. We have 7 total we've slated to be butchered, one for us and six to sell. We've sold all of them plus we sold an additional young hen and tom(Narragansett) to some people for breeding and starting their own flock.

Not much else new here, still working on cleaning up yard and flowerbeds and mulching tender items. The weather is nice, no coat needed, only a sweatshirt today. We've canned 30qt. and pt. of apples. There are still 3/4 bushel of apples, half of which we're going to dehydrate and the other half we'll make juice and can for drinking as well as jelly.

Piggies are cute. Are you going to raise them? to sell and eat yourself? I like the Mama hen and baby turkey. What happened to it's momma? Mo looks well. I just love his mane. I looked up his breed and read all about him. Our rain has stopped - yard is full of leaaves. Trees are bare. :( ....debboe

Linda, it is good! It's a recipe similar to the way I always make mine, but Cortney had just gotten those Taste of Home Cookbooks and wanted to try a new recipe. We didn't make the noodles homemade( which we do 99% of the time)instead used storebought(organic)

Debbie,
We'll be butchering them early Jan. provided weather is good and they are for our own use. We typically raise three, one for my folks and two for us but this year my folks still had plenty of pork in their freezer and opted out. We will be looking into our exact costs for raising them from feeder size(180-200lbs) to butcher, then we'll see if it's cost effective to raise them for butchering, including butchering or without.
Fjords are a wonderful breed, I can't say it enough. His sheath is still swollen and we're hot packing it twice a day, drawing the infection, so it will either rupture on it's own or we'll have to haul him to the vet clinic to have it lanced, poor fella. He's been VERY patient with us, althoguh he stomps him hoof and switches his tail he has NOT done one bad thing and I know it's sore.

The leaves are all off our trees too. In fact I may try to mow the yard and bag the leaf and grass for mulch. The neighbors across the street have loads of trees and we typically end up with tons of their leaves, so I make them work for me( the leaves that is*wink*) as mulch and a compost pile additive.

Have a blessed weekend

The soup looks wonderful!I can smell it from here. I know what you mean about the winter coats on the animals. I want to hug the horses all the time when they have their winter coats.(except when they roll in the mud.lol) Love to read your blogs. I just haven't got around to writing you yet. I know, I know. Just don't think I haven't forgot you. :)

My first visit...I'll be back. Love your "Mo." I have been fascinated with this breed after years of quarter horses and appaloosas. Thanks for Sharing. C

Will definitely try the soup. DH is a picky soup person, but he does like chicken noodle, and I have some chicken wing tips just waiting...for...something. Soup is perfect. Congrats on the canning! It's so much work but oh...is it ever worth it when you open up your pantry and it's all sitting right there!

I don't know if there is anything better than homemade chicken noodle soup! A staple around here, that's for sure!
