Can't you just smell'em Choc. chip cookies hot out of....

These are pictures from Friday. Cortney was dying to bake something
in the wood cook stove! We cut the batch in half, because all
of us are working on loosing weight, we even shared with my folks
and the neighbors, so we weren't tempted to eat to many ourselves.

Yesterday we took a break and headed for the city to get a few errands done. Mike hasn't bought new chains for our chainsaws for two yrs. and it's a needed thing now. We had intended to buy two chains for the smaller saw( we have 2, one with a 24" bar and another with a 36" bar and we can go larger if needed on that one) Well we only purchased one, why??? because they were $28 each! We'll have to save for the next one for the 24" saw and then have two to buy for the big saw! We also met up with our Ds and took him to a late lunch, it was nice visit and the food was great. We had intended to see if there was a movie but ran out of time and needed to head home for evening chores.

Today the plan is to get as much laundry done, as we have room for on the drying racks. This is the time of year when laundry takes all week, because it is slow drying them. We also have a pan of cooked down tomato sauce that is going to be made into either chili sauce or enchilada sauce and canned. It's wonderful how quickly the tomatoes are ripening in the bushel baskets, we just sift through them to see what is ready and run through the mill, cook down and can. The apples are somewhat of a chore and sadly, I've found that we're running low on qt. jars, so may need to buy some. I have put out the word that I'm in the market for used, but haven't gotten a call*sigh* What a blessing, because a few year back we counted our jars and we had over 850 qts. and pts. , so we've almost filled them all .

Well, it's beginning to rain again and we let the baby turkeys and mamas out for some fresh air this morning. They are so dumb they'll set out in the rain, verses going back into the coop where it is dry and warmer*sigh* , so we need to herd them in and shut the door. We have four baby turkeys that are almost a month old and one, being raised by a chicken hen, that is just a little over a week old. This cold snap had very bad timing for these little babes, they all have nice housing, food and water, just no warm sunshine.

Take care, we're still canning fools, keeping toasty warm via the wood stove. I'm thinking enchilada sauce, this will give us the excuse to make homemade tortillas( I've posted the recipe before, just look under recipes) and fix enchiladas for supper.

Blessings for your day.

I am hoping to be able to can more next year. And to have more of a garden too.. The last couple of years have been so unsettled for us. Enchiladas sound good!!

All our chickens were out in the rain yesterday....they had their coop door wide open, but chose to stay out in the blustery, rainy weather. They were the funniest lookin' bunch of ragamuffin chickens ever...soaking wet to the skin, but just so happy to be out roaming about that evidently they didn't care!

Tonia,
I'm always planning to do better, bigger or different. It's in a homesteaders nature*wink* Some say we're all gluttons for punishment, LOL!

Debbie,
We have lazy days too, in fact I'm posting a picture of what our kitchen looks like today, it isn't always so organized and clean*sigh* You can come dust for me, that is my pet peeve, I like to clean bathrooms*wink*, want to trade?

Faith,
We bought the stove two yrs before the Lord blessed us with this homestead. We hooked it up the summer after moving here( we moved in, in Dec., almost 7 yrs ago.) and we've been cooking on it( when it's not to hot) ever since. In fact Mike is planning a summer kitchen for us, with another wood cookstove, so we don't heat the house up when it's hot. I really dread going back to natural gas stove in summer months, so instead we BBQ most meals, that aren't cold sandwiches, salads or pastas.

Sunny,
It was pure torture smelling them and then having to buck up and only eat one*gulp*. I've lost a good amount of weight( for a size 22 to a 18) and I'm haing to work on my will power, LOL!

Cyn,
Our chickens were out in the snow all day today, looks as you described, but were happy cluckers when we locked them up for the night. They smelled worse than our wet dogs though, LOL!

SFG,
I think even in a padded envelope they'd be good only for a possible choc. chip blizzard, or as a topping for ice cream. They'd probably have less calories in crumb form*wink*, I guess I'll be crushing mine from here on out.LOL!
