This and That update

The shop is all closed in and just in time for a rain storm, night before last :o) No leaks, always a good sign.
The 10x16 door will be on hold til Spring, because Mike needs to get wiring done and then hang the ceiling and get insulating done, so we're going to wall it off from the inside to keep the weather out this winter while he's doing the inside work but first he needs to move in his coal/ wood stoker furnace and benches. He'd better hurry in the wind today I feel ole' man winter creeping in !
Looks nice, or so I think*wink*
Cottage cheese in the making( last nights project)

The curd is firm enough for the desired ricotta cheese I need to make lasagna this week.
Whey draining off, almost ready to hang for a few hours before lightly salting and getting into a container for the frig.

Finished product, Ummm, Ummm and it's good, nothing like fresh made!

Well we're off to a cleaning job( Cortney and I clean a couple of home for some elderly friends) and we also have a one time cleaning job tomorrow for a friend on a rental they own. It pays good and it gets me away from the farm for awhile, which I need sometimes *wink*
Have a blessed week everyone, I know you're busy too but we sure miss your comments*sigh*

Roofing day! and Fall in Montana

It began snowing last night and got cold enough for it to stick around some.
Today, rain, snow or wind the metal is going on the shop roof!
Sammy tip- toeing across the snow en route to the food dish
Love how it hangs off the roof, not so fun when it falls on your head
Finally my rain barrels are beginning to fill, to bad I'll have to drain them soon before we freeze solid!

Just quickly posting so photos and we'll be canning tomato sauce and concord grape juice today, plus fixing ham and bean soup, cornbread muffins and apple crunch for dessert for the man crew helping to get the shop roof on. I'm also deep down cleaning a room at a time, you know me multi-tasker*wink*
Blessings for your weekend and we'll post pictures of the roof progress and completion :o)

There's always a first........

The first snow

The first fire in the stove
It was a blessing to receive the moisture, all total we had 4/10th" in the rain gauge, WaHoooo!!!
We'd certainly take more, the ground is so dry it sounded like someone sucking with a straw at the bottom of an empty cup.
Harvested all we had left in the garden in prep for this cold snap, so we have a mess in our mudroom and kitchen. There are two bushel baskets of green tomatoes, a bushel basket of sweetdumplin squash, cantaloupe and honeydew melon. Then a 1/2 bushel basket of ripe and ripening tomatoes, my seed cucumbers, zucchini, a 15# head of cabbage( the other 7 heads are hanging by their root in the cellar), and peppers everywhere!  See what I mean about a mess, a mess of wonderful homegrown produce :o)
We also picked 1 bushel basket, full to overflowing of concord grapes!  I'll be making juice with them and most certainly making a couple of batches of jelly too, Ummm, Ummm! I can the juice, unsweetened then can use for more jelly or just add a little sugar and enjoy as a juice.
We left the root crops, all except the mangle beets and red beets because they were exposed above ground. Praying the onions will be okay, I did mulch them and have some herbs covered with towels. The greenhouse is all tucked in with floating row covers and tarps on the taller items( tomatoes, eggplant, etc....   Our evening temp. tonight is fore casted to be 24F
So we have a pot of potatoes and sausage soup on the wood cook stove for supper, smells wonderful!
Enjoy your weekend, we'll be putting on the metal roof of the shop( barring rainy weather) :o)
Blessings for your weekend everyone
