Our weekend

This weekend Mike was off, so the list of things to do was dug out. Saturday, we took it fairly easy, as it was Mike's B-day. Birthdays are treated as special day(included as part of the gift), the b-day person gets to choose the days menu, as well as their special dessert, and any activities for that day. Mike wanted to attend an auction in the morning and then come home and get some items crossed off the "To Do" list. He chose blueberry coffee cake for breakfast, We treated him out to dinner and for supper we BBQ'ed rib steak, made homemade french fries , coleslaw and for his special dessert, he of course wanted, Apple Pie with vanilla ice cream.

Sunday we slept in a bit, enjoyed leftover coffee cake and a few cups of coffee. We then started working, once again on crossing off the "To Do" list. Mike started cutting our collection of branches and small wood to begin our wood supply for the upcoming winters use.Cortney helped him hold the wood in the cross buck as he sawed it into lengths. I was finishing up hanging out laundry"whites" and began hauling composted manure to add across the front of the property where we intend to plant wild flowers( in the right of way) I loaded and hauled 7 carts full, I call it a cart because it is bigger than a wheelbarrow in capacity. By this time Mike and Cortney were finished sawing and Cortney headed into the house to fix dinner for all of us. Mike got to tilling in the garden and setting the rows so Cortney and I can get our spuds in the ground today. I also spread the manure out over the area and Mike will till it in some evening this week and then we can get it seeded. After dinner we had my folks over for pie and ice cream, visited a bit and then back to work we went. Cortney helped me expand a flower garden area by our back patio, digging out sod and mixing in composted manure. Then Cortney spread the remaining Zinnia seed, shared by our friend Dawn. This should be an exquisite display, with our pink tea rose, purple wild bells, echinachia, white Shasta daisies and newly added zinnias. We expanded this bed for a reason, it's in an awkward corner and it's hard to mow, so we end up weed whacking it most of the time. Now it won't be a problem. I'll be sure to post pictures when everything is in full bloom.

Well, nothing to exciting, but we did cross off several " To Do" items this weekend, PTL. We were also blessed by sunshine and warmer temps, a bit of rain in the evening and early morning hours and then again more sunshine and warm temps.

Have a blessed and productive week everyone!

Happpy Belated Birthday to Mike. We celebrate Bithdays the same way you do. Except for the kids, they don't have to make their bed on their birthday. It's a special day for the Birthday person!! Sounds like you all have been working hard. Sorry to hear the lambs left, bet Courtney misses them, perhaps the little poulets will keep her busy. I can start getting my flowers in the gardens in a few day. Have to wait until after May 6th...debbie

Wow! You guys make me feel like I'm lazy. We had rain all weekend. We didn't get much done here. Oh well, glad you got things crossed off your list.

Hi Kelle,
Received your letter yesterday an what a blessing. I think it is exciting to think about making Plain and Joyful Living a living, sharing, publication between women that love the Lord and the old fashioned ways of living. Your ideas about swaps is fantastic and I will mail our mailing list a postcard asking for a harvest/canning recipe to share that will be printed in the summer issue.
Our mission is to share the joys with others and as such financial gain is not a goal in the least. I long to correspond with others like you and I.
Happy birthday to Mike! After my Mike gave his two week's notice yesterday, he looked at me and said, "I am looking at my new boss". I said, "Well, you'll get your birthday off."
Anyway, enjoy the joys the day offers.
Warm wishes,
Tonya
