This and That

Our solar dryer yesterday, and today the clothes left on to dry are full
of.......
you guessed it, SNOW! Good thing we all have plenty of clothes
One blessing, with all this snow and cold, is that we can still can enjoy
our wood cook stove a little longer.

Yesterday, Cortney and I made whole wheat bread loaves, whole wheat
rolls and a "Cinnamon Nut" bread for this mornings breakfast.

A close up of our indoor greenhouse, with heat lamp running. We keep
our home cool, so added warmth is needed. We found this out the hard
way :o( and had to replant peppers, some tomatoes and all of our
herbs. All is well now, they are growing fine.

Another shot of the greenhouse.

I LOVE your indoor greenhouse!! I use a long table in front of my big front southfacing picture window in the living room. Maybe I will have to save up for one like yours..MUCH more practical for sure! I can't see if my mint is up yet..snow on the ground again..sigh. I ALMOST had clothes on the line like you did.
I agree about the snow extending the using the wood cook stove. I did cinnamon rolls this morning.
Have a great weekend..I love "visiting" your farm!

We did our seedlings just as you did for years, but when we moved here and decided our main source of heat would come from the wood cookstove our house cooled enough to create problems in starting seeds. I know you understand, it's not like a central heat system circulating the air more evenly. Plus our home is a year shy of being 100yrs old, so good wall insulation and good windows present a problem as well.

What kind of wood cookstove do you have? Ours is a Baker's Choice. We were blessed to find this stove, virtually unused( maybe fired twice) right after Y2K and paid 1/4th it's new price.

Right back at you, we love visiting your blog, maybe I can learn to knit. I'd love to make socks, we have friends who spin wool. I do basic crocheting, some beginning quilting and other crafts. My Mom wasn't crafty at all, didn't like to cook much either, so everything I do has been self taught or I seek out people to help me learn.

Have a relaxed and blessed weekend!

Kelle, you stated in your post you will be able to use your cook stove a little while longer - can you not use it after the warmer weather sets in? Does it heat the house up too much? What will you cook and bake in? I really like your nifty stove!...debbie

Debbie,
Thank you it is my FAVORITE tool. You can use it all year, but in summer it would make your home quit hot. This is part of the reason on our "TO DO" list we want to add a screened porch off the back entry and get another wood cookstove to use as sort of a summer kitchen. We do have a natural gas stove as well. In the summer we rarely use the gas stove, instead we use our BBQ. Cortney and I even baked cookies in the BBQ last summer and we use the dutch oven on the BBQ to bake bread. Our BBQ is a smoker as well and uses, charcoal, although we use wood instead( like a mini wood stove) I have plans to make a solar cooker this summer. We typically don't eat a lot of cooked foods in the summer, instead more salads and fresh produce, this fits in with our eating seasonally theme, LOL!

Blessings,
Kelle

I find it amazing you can bake bread in a Smoker BBQ! You are amazing!! Myself, I don't like to eat a lot of meat - I would rather just have fruit and salads or just veggies...my hubby on the other hand wants meat...I BBQ most of all our meat on the grill - How do you make a solar cooker? hopefully you can tell us in one of your posts. Can you actually cook in it? like veggies in a pot? guess you make breads and stuff like that. You are just facinating! I love your blog...debbie
