Spring break ????

The word break doesn't seem quit right, for us it's really a time of yard/garden rejuvenation and prepping for the new season. Cortney will have a break from book work, but will still get credit for hours, in Ag.science and gardening skills.

Our weather has been all over the place for several weeks now, as many of you have been dealing with as well. According to the local news forecast, we'll be having relatively nice weather, into the high 50's F. and low 60's F. this whole week. Only slight chances of rain showers( 20-30%), so we have our "To Do" list all made out and plan to diligently work on getting as many items crossed off this week as we possibly can. We're still leaving flowerbeds, herbs and berries mulched, but can resume cutting back raspberries, trimming up our tea rose, trimming up some bushes and our lilacs and just a general, over all cleaning up. If this weather hold, it may be possible to till in our green manure, finish spreading composted manure and get the main garden tilled and rows set.

Our seedlings are finally beginning to take off, amazing what sunshine will do! We also plan to start some Lettuce mix, Kale, Mustard and Chard in a few planters and bring indoors. The greenhouse still isn't set up yet, due to weather, so may end up starting some cool weather crops in a couple cold frames. Mike doesn't have another full weekend off for 11 days :o( , so it will until then before the greenhouse will even be added to the "To Do" list. He was scheduled to have today off, but the mechanic and only other full time employee is in the hospital( very ill) and has no idea of when he'll be able to returning to work again. This is part of being a manager, even though it is hard to swallow, especially when there are so many things needing to be done here at home, that Cortney and I just can't manage. Thankfully Mike does have a part time young man( a Senior in high school) starting work this afternoon. He will be a HUGE help to, as he will free up Mike to concentrate on the shop work and tire repair. Plus Mike won't have to worry about hauling feed and minerals out to customers vehicles, loading fencing supplies,or eventually filling propane bottles.

We ask that you please bear with us, as we will be hard at work doing Spring cleanup and likely won't have much time to blog. I will however try to get update pictures, as to our progress, posted in the evenings. Okay we're heading out to get some dirt under our fingernails, YEAH!

We pray, you have a productive week, full of blessings.

Blessings,
Kelle and Cortney

Sounds like you will be busy with all you have to do! At least you have Courtney there to help you - two's better than one for sure!! The weather sounds like it will cooperate with you. In WV we had 76 one day, 41 the next day, wild winds and hard winds and snow showers the next! Today is windy, chilly gray and 38! lol Hope you accomplish much on "Spring Break"...debbie

Hey, your weather sounds an awful lot like ours. Today the sun is shining again, so plan to make the best of it. I love being outdoors, especially when you see the progress you're making.

Having Cortney is truly a blessing, we can work together, or on seperate projects and get so much accomplished. Today she works for our friend, still lambing. BTW I forgot to mention we now have three little lambs, the newest is a female and she was a twin, but the other twin was taking all the milk. Now she should grow because she's actually getting her fair share. She's adorable, and a different breed than the boys. She's a Romni(sp?) and the boys are Targees(sp?) All three are white but she has more wool around her face and therefore looks like a stuffed lamb, very cute! I'll try to get pictures of all three, so you can see the difference. We're learning so much information about sheep, it's quit fun and very interesting.
Have a wonderful day and praying your weather straightens out.
Blessings,
Kelle
