A time to relax

It seems that every weekend comes and goes and we still don't actually really relax. Mike only has every other weekend off, so that makes the weekend he's off very busy. We do try to take Sunday mornings and sleep in a bit.

When you make the choice to have animals, you also accept the responsibility of their care. Our animals all have clocks in their heads. So..... tonight's time change is going to mess them up for a bit, although they prefer the Spring forward to the Fall back. This time change they get fed an hour earlier then they've adjusted to and in the Fall back time mode they are fed an hour late. I wish somebody would make up their minds and leave the time alone.

Today Casino had a vet visit at 9 am. He lost a couple pounds, but he is doing very well. His medicine will be decreased this week and then decreased again the following, then another check up and hopefully he'll be done with the meds. It was kind of funny the vet's 2 yr old Dd was in the clinic and she came around the corner when I was paying the bill and talked to Casino. Of course he loves kids and went right to her. She had a toy in one hand and a granola bar in the other, she dropped the toy and when she bent over to pick it up her granola bar broke in half and before I could react Casino snarfed it up. The little girl began to cry and tattled on Casino. Her mom,the vet, told she'd get her another bar and that it was so nice of her to share with Casino. Her tears dried up quickly and I added that Casino was very thankful she shared with him, her reply was so sweet,"Your Welcome Casino!"

We stopped into the farm coop( the store Mike manages) to pick up a ton of feed for a friend and some bags of grain for us as well. We bartered the delivery of the ton of feed for a round bale of straw. All parties are happy with this barter, as we need the straw and they didn't have the time to pick up the feed.

When we came home, Mike fired up the ole' Farmall M tractor( we've been blessed with two, one with a loader) and got it in place and the belt hooked up to the grinder. He ground enough feed for a month, as we're only feeding the chickens and turkeys grain at this point. Before we butchered the three pigs he was grinding every week. Pigs eat a lot, and there is nothing like naturally raised pork, but the cost of the grain can drive you toward the poor house quick!

I filled all the water troughs, as our weather is supposed to dip back into 3-4 day of 20's with the evening lows well into the low teens. While Mike and Cortney delivered the feed and picked up the straw, I finished cleaning the cow stalls and then cleaned Mo's stall while he was out on pasture. Mike and Cortney returned and we unloaded the round bale of straw and got it tarped.

I worked on filling the remainder of my pots for starting seeds and will plan to get the remainder of the seeds started this coming week.

Well, it's almost 4pm and Cortney and I have several batches of cornbread to make for tomorrows, Volunteer Fireman's Chili Dinner. We've been involved in this fundraiser event, for the fire dept. going on 5 yrs now. It's a fun time. This year, they're raising monies toward a new water truck, it will be able to hold 4000 gallons of water for fighting rural fires where hydrants aren't available.

Tomorrow, Cortney is going to church with our neighbor's and Mike and I will be going to the city, later in the afternoon, to pick up our new 6x6 greenhouse and a few needed supplies. When we have the trips to the city , you can count on the day being completely used up.

Tonight for supper we're having pork chops, home canned green beans and homemade macaroni and cheese, we'll probably sneak in some cornbread too!

Blessings to all
