Pulling out, dusting off and trying to recall...

the plan again. I cut and pieced these together 4 yrs. ago, with the intention of making it into a "Roman"(style) window quilt for our big picture window in the living room. These are the only four I have pieced, but there will be three different patterns( two represented in above photo) With canning almost completed, I'm looking for projects to start on. Cortney and I will be working on various Christmas projects, but those we work on in the evenings. I'm looking at all the pieces and trying to rack my brain to what the plan was? Oh well, we'll make a new plan, possibly it will be better! These squares will still be make into a "Roman" style window quilt, just the design will be a bit different as I've found some new inspiration in a few quilt books.

Now all you quilters out there looking at my squares, they are far from perfect and I'm only a beginning quilter, learning EVERYTHING I know from books. I have made a connection with an area quilter and she's more than willing to help me in my journey, PTL! I have two quilt frames, one smaller and one large enough to do a King sized quilt, but it would be nice to get a tutorial on how to actually use one*wink* I've made a couple table runners and a baby quilt and I feel they turned out quite nice, for someone with no formal training. I do machine piece, but I'm a stickler for staying with the tradition of hand quilting. My Grandma, ( my Dad's mom) has made many a quilt, not all of them beautiful like the ones you see on display at fairs and such, but quilts that are made from scraps, tops pieced by my Great Grandma( her mother) from clothes and odd pieces of fabric. I was blessed to receive one of these quilts, it's truly a keepsake and my Grandma signed it, "pieced by Great Grandma H. and quilted by Grandma L.

Last summer I was blessed again with a beautiful quilt she made from cross stitch squares, we'd given her for Christmas a few years before. I need to let you in on something, my Grandma is going to be 94 yrs. old and she hand quilted this quilt alittle over a year ago. I don't believe she's quilting any longer, as her eye sight is not good, but she still cross stitches tea towels and pillow cases and has delved into drawing and painting, in which she is unsurprisingly quite gifted at. I'll have to see if I can copy some of her art work and post it here for you to see and I'll get a picture of the quilt she gifted me with last summer as well.

Not much else new going on, just doctoring Mo, daily chores, some yard and flower garden clean up, odds and ends canning( we're about out of jars; we have a dozen pints and half dozen quarts and a dozen or so jelly jars) and planning our winter, so no time is wasted. Of course we are planing to rest a bit too*wink*

Blessings for your weekend.

Kelle, quilting is something I really want to learn to do. Need to get a sewing maching first. I have kept all my daddy's plaid shirts from when he passed away in 2004 and want so much to make a quilt. We do have a quilting store nearby. I need to go in and learn and just get started. I like your squares. Is Mo on the mend? I hope more of the swelling has gone down...have a great weekend...debbie

Okay, okay I'm knit picking myself! The one square that is different from the others is being taking apart, it's NOT good at all. I don't know what I was thinking when I peiced this together but OBVIOUSLY I wasn't looking very closely. It WILL be better when I re-piece it.

Hey, Kelle, can hardly wait till you get started on your quilting projects. Quiltmaking is such a wonderful addiction! I can attest to that. Would love to come spend some time with you working on your stuff! Go for it!

Hi, Hey glad to find you again, was wondering how you were doing, I'm Jo over in Central Wa and we use to be on the same forum. I always enjoyed your posts, I think you were just moving there and you wer just getting started, animals and wood stove, meeting neighbors. I'm glad to hear you still have your place and learning more, good luck on the window quilt.

Debbie,
Quilting is fun and I like to create patterns, it's choosing the colors that I get stuck on.

Mo, well.... it looks better, but is still swollen and hard toward to opening of his sheath, so.... I'm afraid we'll have to haul him back to the vet to see why this is still an issue. This has been such an odd thing to happen, but I've tried just about everything I know and he's been on antibiotic( sulfur powder) twice and still the infection is there. I'm wondering if there isn't something else going on and we certainly don't want this staph infection getting into his blood stream or organs. I'm caught between a hard place and a rock, so to speak.

Linda,
I'd be honored if you decided to give a few pointers. I know that I'm probably doing most things the hard way, there are always tips to any craft. Grandma gave me a few pointers and the rest I've learned/ learning from books. I'll let you know when I get started. First I have to tackle cleaning out Jon's old bedroom and getting some painting done, then set up for quilting and crafts.

SFG,
I can relate, to that list of yours. Like I said I started these one weekend about 3-4 yrs ago and haven't touched them since. All the fabric is washed and ironed, most of the pieces cut and in need of sewing together into desired patterns. You'll get around to it, just give it some time, I certainly have*wink*

CountryJo,
WOW! it's coming on 7 yrs. we've been here( in Dec.) and you not only remembered us, but found our blog. I have to admit I had to think a bit to remember you, at last I did. How have you been? We've been plugging right along here and will hopefully continue to for some time. If you comment and give me your email( I preview all comments before publishing and wouldn't publish that info.) we could get back in touch, winters I'm better at staying in touch, while things are slower. So glad you found our blog, hope to see you more often.

Blessings,
Kelle

I love love love quilting! I too am a stickler for hand quilting. I don't mind machine piecing but the only way to really call it a quilt is if it's quilted by hand. ;) I'm working on a baby quilt right now, it's almost done and ready to be gifted! Can't wait to see how your roman shade turns out! :)
