Be careful what your ask for.......

We've been asking for moisture for our pastures and last night it came, to the tune of 1-1/2 inches in approx. 10-15 minutes and also included was hail most of it was pea and marble size but there also were many that were ping pong ball sized and hard as rocks. If you click on the photos you'll see larger images. We did sustain crop damage, mostly shredded leaves and some broken vines on the squash, and cucumbers. The hoop house received damage as well, although only two or three through and through rips, the rest are just dents in the plastic. For the rips we're ordering plastic repair tape. Of course it goes without saying that it certainly could have been much worse, so we are thankful and the crops will pull out of the damage and still produce for us. All of our tomatoes, peppers, eggplant and cantaloupe were spared any damage. The moisture was a definite answer to our prayers and has given us a much needed break from irrigating the pastures. There is just something about rain that makes everything green up and grow so much quicker.

The larger hail is the ping pong ball size and rock hard. Thankfully we didn't seem to sustain any damage to our vehicles, windows or roof.
It looked like a river ran through it on our back patio and sidewalk! The rain was coming off the roof so fast it seemed to miss the gutter and what did go in the gutter was run to quickly to collect much in our rain barrels.
If you look you can see our sunken rows are totally flooded as are the walk paths. It drained away quickly because of our sandy soil.
This was our rainbow( actually there are two, you can see them both better in the picture below) after the storm passed over
Does anyone else know what the promise was in rainbows?

So glad there wasn't serious damage from the hail. We are in need of rain too but it seems to go right around us everyday. At least we are blessed with a good well and can water most of the gardens. Have a very blessed day!

Gen 9:13 I do set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a token of a covenant between me and the earth.
Gen 9:14 And it shall come to pass, when I bring a cloud over the earth, that the bow shall be seen in the cloud:
Gen 9:15 And I will remember my covenant, which [is] between me and you and every living creature of all flesh; and the waters shall no more become a flood to destroy all flesh.
Gen 9:16 And the bow shall be in the cloud; and I will look upon it, that I may remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that [is] upon the earth.

Thank you Rachel, I'll let Cortney know. She just loves your girls*wink*
I knew you'd know the promise/ convenant of the rainbow.

Fuat Gencal,
Thank you for your compliment :o) Love your recipes, especially after I translate them*wink*

Peggy,
We're thankful it wasn't any worse damage as well. We have good wells too, one is back in our pastures for irrigation and the other is up by the house for yard and garden. Since we live right along the river our water table is very good, in fact you hit water at about 6-7 ft :o) Blessings for your day and upcoming weekend.

Feral Female,
They are lovely although the pictures don't to it justice. BTW Cortney took these, she's doing quite well figuring out her digital camera and the setting to use for the best picture.

icebear,
Amen is all I can add. What a beautiful visual promise/ covenant, yes? :o)

Yes amen that covenant was a great one Gen 9:13 I do set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a token of a covenant between me and the earth. Praise God he will never flood the eath again, and the rainbow is the fact of that agreement, thanks lots of hugs

I haven't had time nor energy to post about it, but on Monday we got hit with lightning, 3/4 inch hail, and a tornado pushed a giant oak tree down straight into Michael's bedroom. Thankfully, only the top of the tree hit, so no major damage was sustained to the house, but I lost some things on the patio.

We got 1 1/2 inches in about a hour I guess. I have not even gone to see the garden since then. The hail was not too thick, so hopefully no damage.

Wow! Quite a storm- we got the same, minus the hail, and it was all day. We had major down pour and high winds and I thought THAT was bad.
Glad that nothing was too badly damaged, and I hope your cucumbers and squashes are ok.

We had a downpour yesterday too, but NOTHING like yours! Wow! I hate it when it hails - it can do so much damage. Glad your crops and garden made it through. Shredded leaves look awful, but at least the veggies were spared! Great photos, esp. the last one of the double rainbow. I don't know what the double rainbow means. I think of it as your loved ones who have passed away, are just saying hello....debbie

We've been having that kind of rain all summer long. Yesterday we got 2 1/4 in 15 min. All of the flash flooding is really doing some damage to peoples properties. Plus, there have been 5 deaths. So yes, it could be worse.

I DO know what the rainbow is!!!!!

Barbara,
PTL for the promise too because it sure looked like it was going to be a flash flooder*wink*

Faith,
I left you a comment on your blog. So sorry for the loss and damage involved. Sometimes life an be overwhelming. Wish we were closer we'd have helped with firewood cleanup( Mike has two BIG saws) Take care and we're praying for you both.

Debbie,
You are a busy beaver, and you said I work hard, not compared to what you've been blogging about*wink*
I think the garden will pull through just fine, we are a bit set back due to damage to blooms on some items but they're blooming more so it's just a matter of time.

Girl in the pink dress,
Thanks for commenting! Long time no see*wink*
I think that our garden will recover , just some blooms were damaged but many more blooms coming. :o)

SFG,
Sounds like you needed a boat 2-1/4 inches rain in 15 minutes, WOW! I'm thankful and realize that it could always be worse. NE MT had a F3 tornado, killing two people and destroying alots of property in it's path. Just a few nights ago it was reported on our local news that there were 9 tornadoes in the US and 5 of those were here in MT! Sure hope we're not the new tornado alley, YIKES!

Glad to see your comment,we've missed you wit/humor *wink*

Dodi,
We're now following your blog, but you don't have a place to leave a comment on you posts. We've added your FIL to our prayers and pray your life settles down and gets back into a workable routine.

Blessings for your weekend!
